Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 July 2026
LeashUp (“the app”, “we”) is a private, calm home for your dog’s passport, walks and safety. We built it to keep your data yours. This policy explains what data the app handles and how.
The short version
- We do not run our own servers, and we do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- There are no ads, no analytics SDKs, and no third-party trackers.
- Your dog’s passport stays private in your own iCloud. We cannot see it.
- Only the community map pins you choose to share leave your device.
Your dog’s passport (private)
Everything in your dog’s passport — profiles, photos, weight, care records, notes, medical log, special days — is stored on your device and synced across your own devices through Apple iCloud (CloudKit private database). This data lives in your personal iCloud account. We have no access to it. It is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Community map (shared, by your choice)
When you add a hazard or a place to the map, or confirm or report someone else’s pin, that pin — its location, category, and any note you write — is stored in a shared (public) CloudKit database so other nearby users can see it. This is the point of the community map.
Each shared pin is associated with an anonymous iCloud user identifier provided by Apple. We use it only for safety and abuse-prevention: to let you edit or delete your own pins, to apply posting rate limits, and to handle reports and blocks. This identifier is not your name, email, or Apple ID, and we cannot use it to contact or identify you.
You can delete any pin you created at any time. Notes are passed through a content filter, and users can report or block objectionable content, which is hidden automatically.
Location
Location is used only when you take an action — recentering the map, adding a pin, sending an SOS, or getting weather-based safety tips. The app does not track your location in the background and does not store your location history. Coordinates are only saved when they are part of a map pin you choose to create.
Weather
Weather-based safety tips use Apple WeatherKit. Your approximate location is sent to Apple to return local weather. This is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy and Weather data attribution.
Notifications
Care reminders and the optional weekly summary are local notifications scheduled on your device. They are opt-in and can be turned off at any time. There are no push notifications sent from a server.
Children
LeashUp is rated 4+ and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your choices & rights
- Delete individual passport items, photos, notes, and shared map pins inside the app.
- Manage or remove iCloud data through your device’s iCloud settings.
- Turn off location and notifications in iOS Settings at any time.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “Last updated” date.
